Personalised Birthday Song – Lily’s 17th
Here’s How We Turn Your Story Into a Song
After you order, we’ll ask you to share your story — just like this. Here’s a real example of what customers send us, and the song we created from it.
Dear VDSignstickers,
I’d love to have a song made for my best friend Lily. We’ve been friends for over 30 years, and I honestly don’t know how I’d have got through life without her.
We actually met when we were about eight years old. We lived on the same street, and our mums knew each other, but we probably wouldn’t have become friends if it wasn’t for Lily’s terrible bicycle skills! 😂
One afternoon, I came flying down the street on my bike and somehow managed to crash straight into Lily’s garden fence.
I came running out to see what had happened, expecting to find some poor injured kid. Instead, there Lily was, sitting in her flower bed, covered in mud, trying to convince everyone that the fence had moved.
As teenagers, we shared everything — first crushes, embarrassing school stories, terrible hairstyles and music that we were convinced nobody else understood.
Then life happened.
University, jobs, relationships, moving to different cities and eventually having families of our own. There were times when we didn’t speak every day, or even every week, but somehow whenever we saw each other again, it was like we’d never been apart.
There have been some really difficult moments too. Lily was the person I called when my dad passed away, and I was there for her when she went through her divorce. We have cried together, laughed until our stomachs hurt, and probably drunk far too much wine while trying to solve each other’s problems.
Some of my favourite memories are actually the stupid little ones.
The road trips where we got completely lost.
The terrible karaoke nights.
The coffee that turned into five-hour conversations.
And the countless times we’ve said, “We really should stop doing this,” before immediately doing exactly the same thing again.
Now we’re both older, our lives look completely different from when we were eight, but she’s still the first person I’d call when something amazing happens — and the first person I’d call when everything goes wrong.
I’d love the song to celebrate our friendship. Not just the big moments, but all those silly little memories that somehow became the story of our lives.
I want it to be funny in places, emotional in others, but most importantly I want it to feel like two kids who crashed into each other’s lives and somehow never left.
Thank you!
Emma
And then we write the lyrics
More Than Just a Friend
- Emotional tone: Nostalgic, bittersweet, with a warm, cinematic lift.
- Vocals: Female lead (mother’s voice in the verses, daughter’s voice in the bridge).
- Instrumentation: Acoustic guitar, soft strings, ocean waves in the background, a gentle swell in the chorus.
- Tempo: Around 76 BPM — slow, sweeping, like the tide.
Lyrics
We met as kids on the same old street,
Two restless hearts with nowhere to be.
You crashed your bike into my garden gate,
And somehow that accident became our fate.
We grew up chasing summers and dreams,
Laughing until we could barely breathe.
First cars, first jobs, first nights out late,
Somehow we always found a reason to celebrate.
Then life pulled us in different directions,
New cities, new roads, new destinations.
But whenever the world got heavy and hard,
You were still the friend who knew my heart.
Chorus:
Through every road, through every change,
Through every mile that came our way,
Some things fade and some things stay,
But you’re still my favourite adventure today.
We’ve seen the highs, we’ve survived the lows,
We’ve watched each other’s stories grow.
And if I could go back and start again,
I’d choose that crazy kid to be my friend.
Bridge:
We don’t need the same old street,
We don’t need the same old dreams,
Because wherever life may lead,
You’re still a part of me.
Final Chorus:
Through every road, through every change,
Through every sunrise, every rain,
If life gave me one choice again,
I’d choose you as my best friend.
Outro:
From that garden gate to wherever we are,
We’ve travelled a lifetime, yet never too far.
Some stories end, but ours won’t disappear,
Because the best adventures are the ones we share.
And voilà!
